The Federation of State Medical Boards Foundation undertakes educational and scientific research projects designed to expand public and medical professional knowledge and awareness of challenges impacting health care and health care regulation.

The FSMB Foundation makes the results of its research available to the public and provides educational forums for further dialogue leading to the promotion of high standards for the safety and welfare of the public.

Mission Statement

New Directors Elected To FSMB Foundation Board
The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) Board of Directors elected two Directors to the FSMB Foundation Board during the FSMB board's July meeting. The newest Director is Timothy J. Turner, a public member of the Texas Medical Board. He was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry in 2003 and again in 2009 for an additional six-year term. In 2007, he was elected by his peers as Secretary/Treasurer of the Board. Mr. Turner sits on several Texas Medical Board committees, including the Executive Committee, Licensure Committee, Finance Committee, and he chairs the Telemedicine Committee. Mr. Turner is principal of Tim Turner & Associates, L.L.C., a business development and management consulting firm in Houston.

The FSMB Board re-elected Hedy L. Chang, who was originally elected to the Foundation Board of Directors in February 2010 to complete the term vacated by Regina Benjamin, M.D., M.B.A, when she became U.S. Surgeon General. Ms. Chang has also served on the FSMB Board of Directors since May 2008. Ms. Chang was appointed in 2004 to serve as a public member of the Medical Board of California, Division of Licensing. She was reappointed to the Medical Board of California in 2008 by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ms. Chang was recently elected Board Secretary and served as Chair of the Licensing Division.
